Up until recently if you wanted to add your Instagram feed on your website, you could use our handy Instagram gallery widget to do so automatically by just connecting your Instagram account, choosing a few configuration options and adding the widget where you’d like it to appear.
If you have the Instagram Feed Widget you may have noticed that, whilst still being displayed on your website it is no longer pulling through photos, or not updating the photos it shows to your latest ones.
During one of META’s regular review processes the Widget failed to pass their review. It had worked absolutely fine before the review and nothing had changed. META gave some limited pointers on what they were unhappy about and the team set to work to make the necessary changes.
Unfortunately after many weeks of work the app still wouldn’t pass and META wouldn’t give any real feedback as to why not, there was no ability to speak to a member of their team and eventually the form for re-submitting your app just stopped working all together.
It turns out we’re not the only app developers to experience this dreadful process from META and unfortunately we’ve decided that we will have to discontinue our Instagram widget. We have simply reached an impasse.
Since its launch back in 2013 the Instagram Gallery Widget has been one of our most popular features with many thousands of image feeds added.
Therefore we’ve spent time looking at other Instagram feeds - initially for temporary options while we worked on getting ours back up and running, but now as replacements.
Two good options we’ve been recommending are Light Widget and Behold Instagram Widget, both of these provide a range of formats and styling options, they’re easy to set up and add to your website or online store. One has a free plan, both are reasonably priced.
For more information on the differences of these two services please read our overview here.
It’s also worth noting here that there are more options for Instagram galleries and feeds for your website - just a google away and it’s worth exploring what they can offer you.
If you have the old Instagram Gallery Widget we’d recommend removing it when you have a moment.
The majority of Instagram Galleries are added into the Website Footer area so these are the steps to follow to take it out.
Log in to your Create account
Click on Content on the top menu
Click on Header and Footer in the left hand menu
In the Custom Footer Content box find the grey placeholder box for the Instagram widget. You should be able to right click it and use the Cut option on the small menu, or use the backspace key on your keyboard to delete it.
Press the Save Changes button
Next click on Widgets in the left hand menu
Spot the Instagram Widget in your widgets list or use the search feature to find it
Click on the Recycling Bin icon to delete the widget
Finally Publish your site by using the option on the top menu.
