Understanding How To Build Customer Trust and Improve Sales

To build trust with your customers your website needs to be clear and concise and tell your customers everything they need to know in order to make a purchase. Why not use the checklist below and make sure your website is up to it.

Does your site have a logo?

Incorporating your company's branding is an important part of making your website look professional and reflect your company standards. It gives assurance to your visitors that you are reputable and will conduct business professionally.

For guidance on how to upload a logo to your website header, we have put together a guide here.

Do your website images show off your products/services at their best?

If you buy your products from a distributor or supplier why not contact them and ask if they have professional images of the products that you can use on your site.

If you are taking your own photos of your products ensure you take clear pictures which display your products to their advantage. Include close-up pictures of detail if necessary.

Have you provided enough information about your products/services?

When your visitors look at a product on your site does the information answer any questions they may have? How big is it? What colours does it come in? What are the ingredients? If your visitors can't find the answers to their questions, they will look elsewhere to find them and may end up buying from your competitor instead!

At the same time, it is important not to overwhelm them with too much information, finding the balance is the key to success!

What should a customer expect from your service?

Customers want to be assured that you are a reputable business and offer good service. Does your website answer the following questions:

  • What are the conditions of sale?
  • How long will it be before your customer receives their goods?
  • How will you pack the order?
  • Do you have a returns policy?

Are you displaying accepted payment logos?

Lots of people worry about the security of their card details when paying over the internet. If you offer customers the facility to pay online you should display the types of payments you accept clearly on your website along with any security logos. This will reassure your visitors that it is safe for them to make a purchase from you, they can also see at a glance whether you accept payment through a method they are comfortable with.

Offering widely trusted payment gateways such as Paypal alongside a normal card processing option will allow people who have not bought from your website before to choose what they may consider being a safer payment option!

You have the option to display your accepted payment logos in your website's footer as standard. Simply go to the "Site Footer" area of your Create account under the "Content" tab on the Top Menu, and toggle on and off the option "Show Accepted Payment Logos".

Are you displaying proof that you are a reputable business and fully qualified in what you do?

You can increase trust between you and your visitors by adding logos of registered bodies and insurance companies. This will immediately make you appear more professional at the same time as providing more information to your customer.

For example, if you are a Corgi registered plumber are you displaying the Corgi logo and registration number on your website?
