An operating system (OS) is the software that allows your computer device to run. It manages all the resources of a device and it is the foundation on which all other software and programs run. Some examples include Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
The operating system is why the experience of using a PC and a mac is so different, for example. The interface and way these two types of computers are used are because of the different operating systems they run on.
They are more than just an interface for your device, however. An operating system is also responsible for the management of multiple systems and components behind the scenes that keep your device running optimally.
When contacting your Account Manager, they may ask you what operating system you are using. This is because there may be differences between operating systems and knowing this will enable us to help you more effectively.
